Less formatting. More room for ideas.
CiteClear is an independent collection of five free academic citation and paper-formatting tools. The aim is straightforward: help you organize source details, create usable citations, and understand the conventions behind them.
Built around your writing
Manual citation formatting runs in your browser. APA and IEEE references use open-source Citation Style Language styles through citeproc-js. The MLA heading formatter creates an editable Word document, including an automatic page-number field.
Free without an account
No paid AI service, account, subscription, or database is needed. Reference lists are saved in local browser storage. Optional source lookups contact public metadata services only when you ask.
Your judgment still matters
A formatter can organize metadata, but it cannot confirm that a source supports your argument. Check author names, dates, source versions, and unusual cases against your assignment and the relevant style authority. CiteClear is not affiliated with or endorsed by APA, MLA, or IEEE.
Open-source credits
Citation formatting uses citeproc-js, copyright 2009–2019 Frank Bennett, with open citation styles from the Citation Style Language project. The processor is unmodified. See its license notice and the contributor notices preserved in the APA and IEEE style files.
